Girls Create’s mission is to empower girls to lead and effect change in themselves and others through creative learning. The program teaches girls (6th through 10th grade) various aspects of these art forms in a unique way–we prioritize bringing in professionals from the community to teach the programs, guest artists to share their expertise and utilize mentors from the community to provide guidance during the creative process. Each week long program culminates in a final project for the week where we invite friends and family of the girls to see their work.
Girls who participate in the summer camps may have their work selected to be featured in our Girls Create Celebration which is open to the public, taking place August 18 at 7pm at the Jewish Community Center. This year’s Celebration will highlight playwriting, improv and fashion from each of the camps with interviews from the girls about their experiences and showcasing their artistic voices. The plays that were created will be fully staged with added props, set pieces, lights, and sound and the young fashion designers will model their creations as well. Finally a few improv teams will entertain us and impress us with their confidence. Tickets are $10 and include a dessert reception. All proceeds benefit the Girls Create program.
